WORSHIP
“FACES OF HOMELESSNESS”
We all know the commandment and our calling to love our neighbors…but do you really know who your neighbors are? When Jesus was asked, “Who is my neighbor?” in Luke 10, He responded with the parable of the Good Samaritan…and taught us to be a neighbor to those in need around us. This Sunday we will gain a better understanding of some of those precious individuals…the parents and children without homes. Bubba & Lynne Griever will lead a presentation to cover the basic causes of homelessness, dispel some of the myths/stereotypes surrounding the homeless, and offer suggestions and direction on how we can effectively respond and help.
The way that many in the Community of Christ give of time, talents and treasures to others is a real encouragement and this is an opportunity to further focus on our church’s Mission Initiative to Abolish Poverty & End Suffering.
From the Doctrine & Covenants 163:4a, we read:
“God, the Eternal Creator, weeps for the poor, displaced, mistreated, and diseased of the world because of their unnecessary suffering. Such conditions are not God’s will. Open your ears to hear the pleading of mothers and fathers in all nations who desperately seek a future of hope for their children. Do not turn away from them. For in their welfare resides your welfare.”
Lynne and Bubba Griever – Nathan Graybill

WEEKLY PRAYER GROUP BEGINS ON FEBRUARY 1ST AT ATLANTA NORTH
Associate Pastor, Cindy Ford, will begin a Prayer Group that will meet at the church every Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.beginning February 1st. We will meet in the “upper room” at the top of the stairs. We welcome any who can join us and if you cannot physically be present with us, we invite you to set aside some time on Wednesday nights in your own homes to pray together as a family or get together with another family nearby. Prayer should be the foundation for everything that we do and it is the most important thing we can do in our walk as disciples. . .
Jesus set the example for us. Please pray for our congregation and its leaders, our communities, our children and families, our government leaders, our country. . . . there is no end to what we can pray for. I would also invite you to consider fasting on Wednesdays to further strengthen our prayers. Let us unite as two or three gathered together in Jesus’ Name!
PREACHING WORKSHOP IN GREENVILLE, SC
President of Seventy, Karin Peter, will be presenting a Preaching Workshop to be held in Greenville on February 18-19, 2012. She has had great success with the workshop in other areas; particularly with young adults. This workshop is open to everyone; whether priesthood or not. Our intention is to keep the costs for participants at a minimum. There is no charge for the workshop itself. The plan is to provide a continental breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning, and lunch on Saturday. Participants will be responsible for their evening meal on Saturday. Several local members from the Greenville Congregation have opened their homes for housing workshop participants. This is limited, so it is important that those desiring this type of housing make their request known as early as possible. As a Mission Center, we have used the Best Western in Greenville for housing participants in our LEADS program. The contact information for this hotel is provided on the flyer as a suggestion. Hotel cost will be the responsibility of each participant who chooses this type of housing. Please announce this workshop in your congregation and encourage participation. If the desire is for leadership development with some young adults in your congregation, this workshop is for them! Click HERE for the registration form.

COURAGEOUS MEN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS
Guys… This Sunday we’re going to focus on one of the greatest callings we have… to love our wife. We’ve talked about our responsibility to love and teach and set an example for our children (and grandchildren)… but you know… the single most important thing we can do for our kids is to love their mom. In class, we’ll focus on God’s Word and dive more deeply into our call as husbands. I’m looking forward to sharing together.
SUNDAY SCHOOL BEGINS AT 10AM SHARP… DOWNSTAIRS IN THE FELLOWSHIP AREA.
Until Sunday… Walk COURAGEOUSLY.
See you in class
