WORSHIP SERVICE
Theme: “THIS IS MY SON"
When Jesus was baptized in Mark 1:11, a voice came out of heaven proclaiming, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” Then, in Mark 9:7, when Jesus was transfigured before his disciples, a voice once again came from the clouds saying, “This is My Beloved Son, listen to Him.” It is clear from these two scriptures and the additional stories of Jesus, who always referred to God as His Father, that Jesus knew who he was and that the relationship he had with his Heavenly Father was an intimate one of pure love and trust.
Now, let’s look at Matthew 16:13-17 when Jesus asks his disciples who they think that he is? Peter answers, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.” It was the first time that any of the disciples “got it”----what Jesus had been trying to teach them all along. For to them, Jesus was their Teacher, a Rabbi who taught with authority from on high and who was able to work mighty miracles. It was God who revealed to Peter who Jesus really was and then they began to understand, but not completely. It wasn’t until Jesus’ resurrection and his appearing to the disciples and his ascension that they really understood who he was.
Jesus is referred to by many different names and symbols in the scriptures. Among others, he is Emmanuel (God With Us), King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Lamb of God, Lion of Judah, The Way, The Truth & the Life, the Living Word, Our Redeemer and Savior, The Good Shepherd, the Bread of Life, the True Vine, the Cornerstone, the Bridegroom, Our Provider, Our Fortress and Our Deliverer, etc. The question we will explore on Sunday is, “Who Do You Say That Jesus Is?” We may all agree that Jesus is the Son of God, but in your own life’s experiences and faith journey, which one of Jesus’ names/titles can you most relate to? Pastor Cindy Ford will answer this question from her own life as she encourages you to look at new ways you can grow in your relationship with God, through his son, Jesus.

THIS COMING SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 19, 2012 PREACHING/PUBLIC SPEAKING WORKSHOP IN GREENVILLE, SC
President of Seventy, Karin Peter, will be presenting a Preaching/Pubic Speaking Workshop to be held in Greenville on February 18-19, 2012. She has had great success with the workshop in other areas, particularly with young adults. This workshop is open to everyone, whether priesthood or not. Our intention is to keep the costs for participants at a minimum. There is no charge for the workshop itself. The plan is to provide a continental breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning, and lunch on Saturday. Participants will be responsible for their evening meal on Saturday. Several local members from the Greenville Congregation have opened their homes for housing workshop participants. This is limited, so it is important that those desiring this type of housing make their request known as early as possible. As a Mission Center, we have used the Best Western in Greenville for housing participants in our LEADS program. The contact information for this hotel is provided on the flyer as a suggestion. Hotel cost will be the responsibility of each participant who chooses this type of housing. Please announce this workshop in your congregation and encourage participation. If the desire is for leadership development with some young adults in your congregation, this workshop is for them! Click HERE for the registration form.
In Christ, Craig Lenfestey
Note from Pastor Nancy: I encourage as many people to attend this workshop as possible. Since some of us can only attend on Saturday, it would be wise to carpool. Give Nancy a call if you can drive or will need a ride. Nancy and Donald have room for 2 people on Saturday.

ADULT CLASS
The Upside Down Kingdom
Bart Sheldon is the facilitator for the adult Sunday school class. We will meet downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. Continue reading Chapter 1 looking at the Detours related to the ministry of Jesus.
Here are the study questions to look at for that section: Which detour provides the greatest lure to bypass the message of Jesus? Why? What other detour signs prevent us from practicing biblical ethics today? Provide examples of "spiritualizing" biblical stories that may weaken their concrete social meaning. What was the most important idea in Chapter 1? What contemporary examples illustrate the reign of God's kingdom today?
We have several different editions of the book. Please read your edition using these questions so that you can know your particular edition and help Bart with the lesson. If you want the edition that most of the questions and the study guide goes with the please buy the 25th edition.....on Amazom-they sell for $4.40 and up for a used book. The material in each book hopefully will reflect the questions and the section on the detours.
